Scope and Limitations.

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of acacia seed extract as an alternative homemade insecticide for termites. This study will use the acacia seed extract or the ethanol extract as the main ingredient for the homemade insecticide.

The materials will be gathered from some province, countryside, farm places and neighborhood houses on the month of October. This study is limited only to the effectiveness of the homemade insecticide against termites. The researchers will only use the termites as the main subject for this study. The termites will be collected by each of the researchers from the neighborhood houses that are currently being attacked by termites on the month of November.

Background of the study.

We all experience many problems because of insects especially termites. It may be attacking our house, office and even in our community. Philippines is a tropical country which is why termites are eating wood because most of the termites are in subtropical and tropical regions.
This study is about finding an alternative termite killer which is safer to use. people have used various instruments to control termite problem in houses. the most popular is the commonly used insectiside sprays. most of these can destroy termites but they can also do serious damage to human as well. the active ingredients in these sprays, like tethramethrin, and petroleum distillates can cause severe chest pains and cough attacks when inhaled ( bayer health care). aside from this there is a wood preservative against termites which is solignum but this also has a harmful effect on humans. solignum has an ingredient which is harmful to humans like naptha(petroleum) hydrotreated heavy, xylene, iso-butamol, ethylmethyl ketoxime and cobalt neodecanoate.
Many people are looking for an alternative termite killer especially those people who has allergies in those kind of ingredients. with this study the researchers could help those people who are looking for alternative ways to kill termites.

Definition of Terms

1. Acacia Seeds - In this study the Acacia seed is the alternative ingredient for the insecticide against the termites. The Acacia Seed contains the extract which the researchers will use to create the insecticide.

2. Ethanol Extract - The extract that the Acacia seed contain is the ethanolic extract. In this study the ethanol extract will be extracted from the acacia seed which we will use as our ingredient to make our homemade insecticide against the termites. The ethanol extract can serve as a chemical substance against termites because, Ethanol kills organisms by denaturing their proteins and dissolving their lipids and is effective against most bacteria and fungi, and many viruses, but is ineffective against bacterial spores. So technically termites are weak against ethanol.

3. Termites - In this study the termites is the test subject, which the researchers will focus the homemade insecticide for.

4. Distilled Water - In this study the distilled water is the main substance that will mix all the chemicals we will be using for the homemade insecticide against termites.

Significance of the study

The researchers believe that the following people that will benefit from this study is:

1. Households - People and families that are living inside their houses do not have any idea that they are prone to termite attacks. If this happens, they will need to extinguish them. This study will provide them of an alternative solution to their common to this common problem.

2. Local Workers - There are buildings in Iloilo City that are already old, but are still used by local companies. Due to the old age of these buildings, its possible that termites will take over the entire structure of the buildings. So that termites will take over the entire structure of the buildings. So these workers might need to use the insecticide that the researchers will provide to extinguish them.

3. Lumberjack Workers - The workers are selling woods and other wood-like maeterials for other people. Since they are very prone to termite attacks if one wood product gets attacked by termites the other products will be affected as well. Due to their carelessness they will lose their job as lumberjack workers and whatever they are doing will be useless. They can use the insecticide provided by the researchers if their products are being attacked by termites.

4. Future Researchers - If somehow, this study will succeed. The researchers might be able to help future researchers that are also aiming to study the Acacia seed extract as an alternative homemade insecticide. This study can serve as a guide in their next research studies.
